On this summer’s Sunny Design Days blog tour, we stayed at a different place every night, so on our second day in Barcelona we moved into yök Casa + Cultura, which is something in between a luxury holiday apartment and a hotel, and also a spot for cultural events.

The founders, Petz and Mari, have put a lot of work and thought into renovating these three apartments in a sustainable way, restoring the original features and re-using old materials, and also furnished them with a mix of vintage and locally produced items, all with the environmental footprint in mind. You can read all about that in their manifesto, or follow the renovation process on their blog.

The seven of us shared a beautiful four bedroom apartment, with amazing mosaic tile floors in all rooms, a big kitchen made from recycled planks, gorgeous stuccoed ceilings, and lots of light.

The unique part of yök is the Cultura part. Mari and Petz have their office on the top floor of the building, with access to a big rooftop terrace, where they host events to bring visitors and locals together, and to add to the Barcelona cultural life. Events can range from themed dinners and creative workshops to guided tours of special areas in the city or art exhibitions.

Ems Designblogg is all about Scandinavian style, soft minimalism and beautiful functionalism. The blog is Sweden's oldest interior design blog and has been up and running since 2005. I strive to fill it with a mix of inspirational and aspirational images from all over the world, while keeping true to my own voice and style, where transparency is key and creative criticism is highly valued. When I'm not blogging, I bake chocolate cakes for my kids, hang around Stockholm's cafés and drink way too many cappuccinos, do some occasional styling work, and try to fit in some inspiring travel adventures in between. If you have any suggestions, propositions for collaborations, other ideas or just want to say hi, throw an email at: [email protected].
